Brooke's 1st Symposium

Brooke cutting Brittney's curls with Joni Observing

May 2018 I was lucky enough to attend the Spring Symposium in Rockville, Maryland. Wafaya hosted this event at her beautiful curly hair salon Oasis. It was amazing to be surrounded by so many stylists who loving doing curly hair as much as we do here at Moisture Salon.
I learned how everyone else ran their booking site, services they provide and also different styling techniques. For me I think it’s important to keep educating yourself, learning different products and also techniques. One technique I learned from the Oasis team, which I think it’s better for the salon aspect rather than an at home technique for clients...they would take a bowl and put a little bit of conditioner mix with water and keep reapplying it to the hair...this they did on multi-textural (4C) hair. This is a great technique for keeping the hair hydrated and not rising our precious product down the drain. A perfect at home product application that I learned was really getting into the hair with conditioner and product and doing a prayer motion along with finger combing the product in the in the hair. This technique insures no frizz and proper product distribution, I will definitely be implementing this in my sets. I can’t wait to show everyone!

This event wasn’t just for learning new techniques but also the business aspect of the salon. An important take away for me was learning how to manage my time replying to clients on my days off but not letting it consume my day. Having one hour a day or night to tend to your job or business is perfect, you wont feel as over-whelmed but you can get your work done and then have time to spend preparing your work week or with your loved ones. I don’t think many people realize how much time we take away from our personal lives to tend to clients or potential clients. I think we should all have a mutual respect for each other especially on these designated days off.
Thank you all for reading my thoughts in somethings I've learned in these last couple days.

Cuba The Lost Curl Country

February 19, 2016 Ronald Suriano

Next Week I have the privilege of visiting the lost country of Cuba. I will be learning all kinds of history about Havana and other cities in Cuba. During this trip I hope to experience all that Cuba has to give... Learning their culture, eating their cuisine, Dancing their own style to their own music and the best thing will be seeing what they have been doing to Curls all these years. What they used and How they used it and did they managed it well? I hope to set up an interview with a stylist in Old Havana to talk to him about Curls in Cuba.. What a treat that would be. Stay Tuned Everyone!!!!!!!

So after I return from my trip I will be talking about what the impact of no trade from US has done to the women and men with curls of Cuba.

I will hope to find out what they have been using and how self maintanence has been done.

Will I see more of there hair straight or more natural?

Will I see more of it dry and brittle? or will I see it gorgeous and shiny..

Maybe there is some hidden secret for perfect curls they know about that I may stumble on.. OR just maybe I can help a salon there learn some tips and tricks to bring back to their clients... I would love to have that happen. Maybe after I interview the Stylist in Cuba I can offer that to him. What an honor that would be.

So Sit Back and Wait Patiently for my answers to all my Cuban Questions..

Thanks and have a curly wurly day...

Introducing Moisture Salon Cutting Technique

January 24, 2016 Ronald Suriano

4C's class from State To State?!

Claudia Philips, owner and operator of The Styling Hutch, located in Plano, TX sought out the owner of Moisture Salon, Ron Suriano II, for his impressive skills of cutting curly hair, after meeting him at CHA (Curly Hair Artistry) Fall Symposium held in Manchester, NH this past November.

Ron was honored to be invited to Texas to teach Claudia's team of stylists his mastered technique of cutting curly hair that he  cultivated over the last 6 years.  So began the birth of the 4C's technique.

The 4C technique is a trademarked acronym for Creative Custom Curly Cut (tm). This technique is an intuitive, curl by curl cut, done on dry hair, customized to your hair's texture, density, length and lifestyle.  Ron developed this after noticing that one curly cut does not fit all. Wavy, curly, coily and highly textured hair cannot be cared for and sculpted the same way, so a curly cut should be as unique as your curl.

Ron partnered with Gregg and Joann Starkman creators of our premiere organic haircare line, Innersense Organic Beauty and headed to Texas.

The Styling Hutch Salon team was taught the 4C technique using a one on one approach. Day one Ron spent cutting each model's hair, followed by proper hydration using the Innersense Organic Beauty product application.  The Innersense team also gave some great tips on some of the other uses for their products.  On day two each team member executed the 4C technique on their own model while everyone gathered to watch, with Ron teaching a more indepth one on one with that stylist.

The response from the first national 4C class was a major success!  Ron hopes to teach his Custom Creative Curl Cut all over the world!  He plans on having many more of these classes and events focusing on the love and passion for helping people love their curls the way that he does.

If any salon is interested in having Ron Suriano II educate their team or having a one on one please contact the Moisture Salon located in Schenectady, NY, (518)395-8136. We'd be thrilled to send you more scheduling information.
